Michael Millenson – Highway to Heart, Humor, and Honesty in Healthcare Interview

Michael L. Millenson is president of Health Quality Advisors LLC and an adjunct associate professor of medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. His critically acclaimed book, Demanding Medical Excellence: Doctors and Accountability in the Information Age, addressed the appalling toll of medical error back in 1997, and he’s continued to bluntly do so in numerous articles and speeches since then. National Public Radio called him “in the vanguard of the movement” to measure and improve American medicine.

Prior to starting his own firm, Millenson was a principal in the health-care practice of a major human resources consulting firm. Before that, he was a health care reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where he was nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize.

A sought-after speaker, Millenson has keynoted numerous health care meetings and served as faculty for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and a visiting lecturer at the Harvard Business School. He’s written for publications ranging from the British Medical Journal and Health Affairs to The Washington Post, and he regularly contributes to Forbes.com, The Health Care Blog and Medium. Millenson also serves on the board of Project Patient Care, the editorial board of the American Journal of Medical Quality and the policy committee of the Society for Participatory Medicine. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he majored in history and economics.
